About this piece
This handmade Damascus steel hammer is forged the same way our blades are: layers of high-carbon steel are welded, drawn out and shaped by hand, then etched so the flowing pattern you see across the head is the steel itself rather than a printed or laser-marked surface. Because every billet moves differently under the hammer, the pattern on the head you receive will be unique to that piece.
The head is fitted to a shaped wooden handle that is sanded and finished by hand, so the grip sits comfortably in the palm and the balance sits close to the head. It is a piece made to be picked up and looked at — the kind of forge-made object that ends up on a workshop shelf, a desk, a mantel or in a display case next to a Damascus blade.
We forge each hammer to order, which means you can ask for a different handle wood or a plain-finished head before we begin.
