About this piece
A Viking-style hammer axe with a high-carbon steel head on an Ash wood handle — the shape that Norse smiths settled on because it does two jobs at once: an axe edge on one side, a hammer poll on the other. Useful at a camp, and one of the strongest silhouettes in the collection on a wall.
The head is forged and heat-treated by hand so the edge holds while the body stays tough enough for impact work, then hung on an Ash handle. Ash is the traditional axe wood for good reason: it is springy, absorbs shock rather than transmitting it to your wrist, and takes a clean hand-sanded finish.
This axe suits splitting kindling, camp work, re-enactment display and collectors of Norse pieces. Each one is forged to order, so the head shape and the grain of the handle are individual to your axe, and we can discuss a leather head cover or a different handle length before we start.
